“DEFEND THE DOGS” STATEWIDE RALLY Wed., July 9, 2008 11:30a.m.-2:00p.m. Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis Please RSVP to defendthedogs@yahoo.com if you will be attending. The rally is two weeks from yesterday! Attached is a press release. We are asking all rescues and individuals to please take this to your local newspapers and ask them to print it. Take it to your local radio stations - most stations will do free nonprofit announcements. Emailing it to them is ok; “snail” mailing it is better; hand delivering is best. We need to use every avenue of promotion for this event. And we all need to pull together for the sake of the "prisoners of greed". Every person in the state who loves dogs needs to know about this opportunity to raise awareness of the atrocities of the puppy mill industry. Thank you for doing your part in promoting it. For those who want to carry signs the day of the protest: for sign making ideas, go to www.petshoppuppies.org/print/index.htm or www.petstorecruetly.org/protest.html.Additional Information: Jana Kohl will also be at the Barnes and Noble Book Store in Carmel on July
9th for a book signing at 7:00pm. The address is 14709 US Highway 31 North in
the Greyhound Pass shopping plaza. For more flyers to promote the rally, visit www.defendthedogs.com. We greatly appreciate those who have sent us their RSVP’s. We have a sizeable number now (nearly 100). Please continue to get the word out and talk this up! The general public is outraged when they learn the truth about puppy mills. It’s time to take action! 200 people at Monument Circle on July 9th is going to speak volumes!!
DEFEND THE DOGS STATEWIDE RALLY
July 9, 2008 11:30a.m.-2:00p.m.
Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis
Please RSVP to
defendthedogs@yahoo.com if you will be attending.
Here is an update to the original email you received:
As of this writing, we have 38 people who have committed to be at the rally.
That is fantastic for the first few days after sending out the information.
But let’s shoot for 200! Please continue to spread the word. It’s important
that people RSVP to us, not only so that we know how many people we are
accommodating, but so that we can inform the press. The more people, the more
the media will pay attention. Without our intervention, the dogs remain in
cages. Let’s pull together and swamp the capital city!
Please RSVP to
defendthedogs@yahoo.com if you will be attending.
JANA KOHL’S BOOK: If you haven’t had a chance to read Jana Kohl’s book, “A
Rare Breed Of Love”, go pick one up this weekend. It is available through
www.hsus.org, WalMart or a variety of
bookstores. It‘s a purchase you will not regret! The book is about PUPPY MILLS
and ANIMAL ABUSE. She is speaking out against PUPPY MILLS on her summer book
promotion tour and is attracting national attention. She was on Good Morning
America and in People magazine. We are thrilled that she chosen Indianapolis
for a stop on the tour.
CARPOOLING: If you live in the southern part of Indiana, or the northern,
and would like to carpool with others, I will serve as a “go between” for you.
Please let me know what city or town you are from and I will try to hook you
up with others in your area. If you are from a small town, please let me know
what large city you are near.
FLYERS: If you did not receive flyers, there is one attached. You can also
go to
www.defendthedogs.com and download a flyer. I will also attach
our initial informational email so that you can have that to hand out also if
you’d like. Please take these to your local veterinarians’ offices, pet stores
(some actually do NOT sell puppies!), doggie day cares, kennels, etc. You can
also email it or take it directly to your local newspaper. Usually they are
happy to print something for a nonprofit event.
BANNERS: We will have some banners with us, but not enough to accommodate
everyone. If you would like to carry a sign or banner, we are asking you to
bring your own. There are good ideas on this website:
www.petstorecruetly.org/protest.html.
NO DOGS: Some have asked about bringing their dogs. We would love to be
able to have them all there, however we must ask you not to bring your
dogs. There are liability issues as well as concerns about high temperatures.
PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND, NO MATTER WHAT PART OF THE STATE YOU ARE FROM! ALL
RESCUES NEED TO BAND TOGETHER FOR THIS! ALL CARING, HUMANE PEOPLE NEED TO COME
AND SPEAK FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NO VOICE!
Additional Note:
Hopefully many of you have seen the PetShopPuppies billboard on 465, near the
airport. You can see a picture of the billboard at
www.petshoppuppies.org.
It is an excellent location to raise awareness about puppy mills, reaching
thousands of people every day.
The problem is, it won't be there after July 9th unless PetShopPuppies can
raise enough money to pay the rent for the coming months. Please visit
www.PetShopPuppies.org and make a tax-deductible donation so
we can continue using the billboard to educate the citizens of Indiana.
5,000 licensed breeders and brokers are supplying over 500,000 puppies to pet
stores nationwide. While Indiana has its share of licensed puppy mills, we
also have an enormous number of unlicensed Amish puppy mills. We must inform
the public about this atrocity and the Indianapolis billboard is a significant
educational tool. Please help us keep it up!
